The Israeli armed forces carried out an offensive in the town of Jabalia, north of the Gaza Strip, with the aim of eliminating a senior Hamas leader linked to a previous attack on Israeli territory on October 7.
The airstrike on this refugee camp resulted in a death toll of over 50 people, according to the Ministry of Health of Hamas, which currently governs the Gaza Strip.
In this context, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the operation and stated that they successfully eliminated the Hamas commander, Ibrahim Biari, who was involved in the October 7 attack.
The attack on the refugee camp has drawn international condemnation. Organizations such as Doctors Without Borders (MSF) denounced the airstrike and reported a high number of casualties. Additionally, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, issued an urgent call for a ceasefire.
Both UN leaders warned of the danger of an escalation in the conflict beyond Gaza if immediate measures are not taken to stop the violence.
